Thank you for helping create many of our stories.

Some of my fondest memories of Eric (Dad) were from Impala Ridge Ranch, trekking the farm to find plants we could propagate as I went through my Bonsai creation phase. Eric wanted to prove to everyone that my nutty theory of grafting bush plants could work. This required hours out and about in the terrain drinking coke, beer and watching nature. Collecting a plethora of plants was not our only objective, each trip became a competition to see who could spot a buck or bird first, but there was no chance anyone could take that position from Eric. Eric’s eyes were peeled on the landscape, and he topped everyone’s count, every time. Sharing this landscape with his family was clearly one of his happiest places to be.

I was fortunate to see and experience the fruits of Eric’s vision as he planted the seeds and foundations of a family community, which became known as Intaba Ingwe. Here we spent several years sharing and enjoying the flora and fauna he loved passionately, as each of us extended and nurtured our families there. Along with typical life challenges, those years came with many amazing memories our children will have etched in their history, the foundation of which was created by Eric.

We were so fortunate to have Eric’s full support and help building stables and fencing as he helped Dakotah map out her horse ranch where she could live her dream for 5 years. This was a life-changer for Dakotah and Ashley, and one that Eric had a massive influence in constructing.

I will remember Eric for always being there to help. Dressed in his jeans and farm shirt, I remember watching him on his daily hikes to the farm water tanks as he diligently checked levels and made sure we were all well taken care of. I will remember Eric for his love of nature. I recall him talking to Sally, the resident Ostrich at Manzengwenya as she pecked at his beer bottle. I remember chillingly watching him walk up to his rhino, Shakila, then start petting and de-ticking her while our jaws dropped.

Eric was always the first to offer a round of drinks and welcome you into his home with a gentle bear hug and his warm words: “It’s so good to see you.” I will remember him hosting many braais at the Stone House and at Hippo Dam as the grandkids ran around and lots of laughter and stories were told around the fire.

I will remember Eric for being the catalyst of many amazing memories for us and his grandkids.

Dad, while adult years have had their challenges, your vision wrote chapters and stories in our lives that will live fondly in our hearts, memories and direction for years to come. We love you and we will miss you, until we meet again. xxx Jill
